Home rental in Punta del Este is generally a less expensive option for a family or group of friends than staying at a hotel. Many types of rentals are available; choose from modest to luxury homes and condominiums.

The prime season runs from late December through January, during which time rentals are at a premium. From February to March, prices are reduced, but the appeal of Punta del Este is in no way diminished, for the resort is tranquil and the weather mild. The best time to reserve  rental properties is during September and October when the choice selections are first listed.

Rental properties are generally listed for occupancy for 15 days to a full month - the traditional time owners expect to lease properties. 

FYI: though the rental prices are traditionally listed  for either the 1st or 2nd 15 days (the fortnight) of January, or for the full month, the peak rental period is the week between Christmas and New Year, which is the most expensive time. It is understood in Punta that a rental of the 1st fortnight of January, or rental of the full month,  usually includes some or the entire week between Christmas and New Year. For example, a rental for the first fortnight of January would include the last week of December. Owners charge a premium for renting that week and the first two weeks in January.
 

Amenities
The traditional rental property comes without linen or bath towels, and cooking utensils are minimal. Though times are changing and now the better properties are fully equipped (some with housekeepers), ask your realtor about the amenities offered in each rental. The realtor can make arrangements to rent linen and towels and all else needed before occupancy.

The protocols for renting are:
• A deposit of 50% to reserve a property is mandatory.
• A 10% surcharge for taxes and realtor fees.
• Before occupancy, the rental balance is paid plus a security deposit of 20% of the rental price. The fee is returned, less outstanding telephone and utility bills and other charges.
• All fees are due before possession.
• Rental transactions and all related fees are paid in U.S. dollars.
• Cable television and internet services can be rented on a weekly basis.
